    Appearance: Colorless to reddish - brown oily liquid with almond odor
    Stability :1. Non-corrosive to metal, can be stored in iron, mild steel, copper or aluminum containers. It gradually turns brown in the air or in the light, so it should be hidden from the light and filled with inert gas for sealed storage. After furfural was placed in oxygen, air, carbon dioxide and nitrogen for 40 days, the amount of oxides (resinous) formed was 1.7%, 0.3%, 0.1% and 0.05%, respectively. Adding p-hydroxydiphenylamine, diphenylamine, cadmium iodide, hydroquinone, phloroglucinol or β-naphthol to furfural, adding 0.1% can effectively prevent oxidation. Adding 0.001%~0.1% N-phenyl-substituted urea, thiourea or naphthylamine to furfural can prevent the formation of resin when heated at 60~170℃.
    2. Chemical properties: furfural has the properties of aldehyde. For example, an addition compound can be formed with sodium bisulfite, which is oxidized to furanoic acid and reduced to furfuryl alcohol. Furfuryl alcohol and furfuran formic acid were formed by Cannizzaro reaction in concentrated potassium hydroxide solution. It reacts with potassium cyanide to form furoin. Reacts with ammonia to form furfuramide, reacts with amine to form Schiff base. Furfural is heated to 350~400℃ with sodium lime, or nickel or zinc oxide and chromium, vanadium pentaoxide as a catalyst is heated to 200℃, and furan is transformed. When the refined furfural is placed, due to the action of oxygen in the air, a series of complex reactions such as decomposition and polymerization occur, making the color darker. Heat or light can accelerate its decomposition, polymerization reaction.

    The Usage of 2-Furaldehyde

    1.Use as a raw material for organic synthesis, but also used in synthetic resins, varnishes, pesticides, medicine, rubber and coatings
    2.It is mainly used as an industrial solvent for the preparation of furfuryl alcohol, furoic acid, tetrahydrofuran, γ-valerolactone, pyrrole, tetrahydropyrrole, etc
    3.Use as an analytical reagent
    4.Use for tanning upper leather. It should be stored in a cool and ventilated warehouse, kept away from light, to prevent sunlight exposure, and away from fire.
    5. GB 2760-96 for the permissible use of food spices; Extraction solvent. Mainly used to prepare a variety of hot processing flavor, such as bread, cream candy, coffee and other flavors.
    6.Uses as the raw material for the preparation of many drugs and industrial products, and furan can also be made into butanedial by electrolytic reduction, which is the raw material for the production of atropine.
